6pm and the Ministry for Tourism and Culture are the main sponsors this year of the Malta International Open Squash tournament which is being held from 7 to 10 May at the Marsa Sports Club.
Over 60 players are taking part in the men’s and ladies’ open events, including the highest number of female participants ever to play in such a tournament. All the top Maltese players will be fighting for this year’s title and cash prizes and there might be some surprises in store with quite a few up and coming players having improved a lot in the past year.
Young Colette Sultana will be playing for the first time in the ladies’ open tournament and no doubt her experience abroad will help her to beat and hold her own against most of the other female players.
The Malta Open is the most important and prestigious event in the squash annual calendar and the fact that this year there is a record number of entrants proves that squash is becoming very popular in Malta.
